home improvements

if you are a long time follower of my blog, you may remember this place was in need of some serious TLC when we got here. we (damian mostly) worked so hard to get this place livable, and so much has been done. we fixed the roof (a few times), replaced ceiling and drywall, installed a floor, replaced windows, installed doors, planted a garden and lots of trees, built a table, installed an irrigation system, put in grey water catchment, gutters & rain barrels, painted, built shelves… but it’s been 6 years now, and the list of projects never seems to get any shorter. i look around and still see so much i want to change. so many junk piles and dilapidated structures. so many plants that need attention, not to mention all the things that could hurt or kill a toddler… i guess that’s just part of life. recently though, some stuff has been happening that i’m really excited about…

for instance, i now have an office! it is officially a shed (for building code purposes), but it’s where we take turns going to work or pray or sleep when we need quiet, and it’s pretty much the best thing ever. i am so so grateful to steve & darlene for making it happen.

inside the office. the ladder goes to a “storage shelf” that just happens to be storing a nice soft futon.

and we improved our front yard by pruning the tree, getting a horse trough (swimming pool) and setting up my old dining room table for eating al fresco. the summer desert nights are so blissful, it’s lovely to sit outside.

and the days are not so bad if you hang out in the tank for the middle part of the day.
